Does anyone get to Friday night and feel like they’ve just come out of a tornado? The weekdays often seem so chaotic (and it doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon). And on top of all of it, there seems to be this constant pull to do and be more.
In today’s world, we are convinced that we always need more. More money, more clothes, more productivity, more success… you name it, we need more of it! No matter how good a person appears to have it, it never seems enough.
But, what if it could be? What if who you are, what you do and how much you try, was enough.
I once read a quote that said, “Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more” (Melody Beattie). It is one of those quotes that has stayed with me and comes to my mind often.About a year ago I was facing a difficult trial in my life. Right in the thick of it, when everything seemed dark, I felt prompted to make a mental list of everything I was grateful for. It felt so out of place of what was happening in that moment, but as I started with my husband and children and continued through every little thing I could think of to be grateful for – I changed. I felt peace. The weight and burden of my trial were lightened in that moment. Instead of being bogged down by loss and sadness, my heart lifted in gratitude for all of the things I did have.My trial did not change. It was still difficult to bear, but, because of gratitude, light and peace entered my heart and mind and gave me the strength to overcome something that had felt so insurmountable. Gratitude truly made what I had enough, and more.Sarah, @thekindredpress
